New Jersey prefers Las Vegas!

A new poll from telephone survey of 1,001 adults, found that New Jersey residents preferred Las Vegas casinos to the Atlantic City ones.

57% of the people who were asked said they prefer Nevada for casino gambling, and just 27% go for Atlantic City.

The poll also showed that 1 out of the 10 people asked, would stop going to Atlantic City if Philadelphia or New York were offering casino gambling.

The survey was payed for by the Richard Stockton College was conducted by the company Zogby International. It took place between May 17 and May 25 2005, and the poll had 48 questions about Atlantic City and its casinos.

The poll also showed that Atlantic City still is the No1 entertainment destination for the state, just ahead of the Jersey shore and the Meadowlands sports complex. Also more than 90% of adults have been in Atlantic City at least once.

Viper software too Hot? Literally

I read in a few blogs/forums today that the Microgaming Viper software brings the CPU usage close to 100% causing computers to overheat and even damage.

Other major software applications use from about 5% to 20% and seems that Microgaming is aware of the problem, but until now (that was discovered) did absolutely nothing to fix it.

Thieves now attack Gamblers

Phoenix Suns and Casino Arizona close the deal

The Phoenix Suns announced this week that they have sold the naming rights for ten years to the arena's entrance, which will be called Casino Arizona Pavilion.

The NBA does not want to be tied to legalized gambling, but 18 of the 30 teams have sponsorship deals with casinos. As long as the Casino does not offer basketball bets, the NBA will not complain. Casino Arizona, does not have a sportsbook.

"As the Indian casinos become more marketing aware and have a larger advertising budget, they are trying to connect sports fans," said Marc Ganis whose firm specializes in sports marketing.

Asian Casino operator expands in UK

Asia's biggest casino operator, has announced plans to expand in Britain's gambling industry.

The company will now have the ability to leverage its investments in the U.K. and expand its related business activities," Genting said in a statement released last Friday.

Genting Overseas Holdings, will sell a 20.3% stake in Stanley Leisure to Palomino, by Genting International, for $35.7 million. And Genting International, in turn, will issue shares to Genting Overseas.

Stanley Leisure is one of the biggest casino operators in the UK, and said last November that it would join with Genting to develop Las Vegas style casinos in Britain, taking advantage of the nation's new gambling laws.

A Casino in Gettysburg, good or not?

The idea of 100's of slot machines just a cannon shot away from the battlefield at Gettysburg has some historians and preservationists up in arms.

Last week, a group of 10 investors relealed plans to seek a casino license from the state as part of a proposed Gettysburg Gaming Resort and Spa.

It would be a mile and a half from the National Military Park, the battle ground where in 1863 thousands of men gave their lives.

David LeVan, a businessman known in town for contributing generously to preservation efforts, said that the casino would be fully respectful of the history. It would not have a Civil War theme or be visible from the park.

Party Poker vs PokerNow battle continues

It appears that the Party Poker vs PokerNow issue is to end with the disappearance of the latter.

PokerNow has been in trouble with licensor Party Poker, which accused it of violating agreements by offering rakebacks to its players, many allegedly lured away from Party Poker itself.

Online poker fora were full of comment several weeks ago on what looked like a clash over rake rebates to players by relative newcomer Poker Now which commenced operations last October.

Online poker expert, Pokeraddict told us that PokerNow's marketing was apparently geared towards rake rebates, competing with other skins by paying the affiliates 25 percent of rake back at first, although it is understood that in the end some were getting more then that.

France to allow Online Gambling

The online casino legislation may change sooner in Europe and the UK than in the US as it seems. Sources reveal that France is very close to allowing online casinos.

The French online casino business has been in full swing for several years. It is estimated that the French gamble twice as often and for three times as long as British online casino players.
