New Las Vegas Casino is ready

Modest men do not build hotels that cost $2.7 billion, and so it is no surprise that Steve Wynn compares his new resort and casino to the place where the new pope was elected.

The doors to what is among the world's most expensive hotels opened one minute after midnight, and hundreds of people poured into the 50-story chocolate-colored structure, where room range in price from about $300 to more than $850 a night (although prices may be lower at some times).

By midday, groups of people were being given guided tours of the lobby and casino where slot machines clanked and people wagered on everything from blackjack to horse races being shown live on giant television screens.

The atrium over which the 50-story hotel looms was filled with live trees decorated with balls of flowers that resembled Christmas tree ornaments.

Golf and shows The resort's golf course, the old Desert Inn course redesigned, is the collaborative work of Wynn and course designer Tom Fazio. The course features 1,200 trees, some half a century old and some 60 feet high.

Well there are 18 restaurants to choose from at Wynn Las Vegas ranging from a place called Alex --- named after the chef --- which serves what is described as Riviera cuisine, to Tableau, which serves American cuisine.

In between the Riviera and America there is "French influenced Shanghai" food, Italian seafood, the Red 8 Asian Bistro and Corsa Cucina, described as a "sleek, high energy cafe" that serves Italian food.

Wynn Casino Las Vegas opens its doors

Steve Wynn has designed some of the most famous hotel-casinos ever built like The Mirage, Treasure Island and Bellagio.

Wynn is gambling once more on Thursday, with the opening of the $2.7 billion Wynn Las Vegas, his triumphant return to the Las Vegas Strip.

Wynn, 63, is wagering his reputation on Wynn Las Vegas and the adjacent Encore, a $1.4 billion hotel-casino scheduled to open in 2008.

But the high-end market he once dominated has changed since he lost control of Mirage Resorts and sold it to MGM billionaire Kirk Kerkorian in 2000.

MGM Mirage Inc., which now runs the palaces he built, controls the majority of the hotel rooms on the Strip, now that it has completed its merger with Mandalay Resort Group.

And Wynn's new hotels will put him in direct competition with Las Vegas Sands Corp., parent of the Venetian megaresort and the 3,000-room Palazzo, which will open across from Wynn Las Vegas in 2007.

State board fines Caesars $50,000

A $50,000 state fine against the Caesars Indiana riverboat includes violations in which the casino mailed promotional materials to people who had placed themselves on a list banning them from the state's riverboats.

Representatives of the Ohio River casino near Louisville, Ky., told the commission Thursday that three people received one improper mailing, another received two mailings and a fifth received five mailings.

Caesars general manager Ed Garruto said that the fines over the mailings were a reminder that casino staffers must "redouble our efforts" to make sure state regulations were followed.

Huge Jackpot at Mega Millions

Lottery mania is spreading across the United States as the Mega Millions lottery reaches a jackpot of $205 million.

According to the New Jersey Lottery, retailers across the state were selling over $2,300 of Mega Millions tickets per minute leading up to last night's drawing.

JSQ Convenience on Kennedy Boulevard sold over 800 tickets in just two days. Mohamed Khair, a worker at the store, said he even bought one for himself. "I'd keep 10 percent for myself and 90 percent to charity," Khair said.

None of the tickets sold for Tuesday's $168 million drawing matched all five lotto numbers and the Mega Ball.

Macau Vs Singapore

On Tuesday, one day after Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong sanctioned the development of two casinos in the state-city, both of Macau's two leading gaming operators, despite claiming to be fearless to the challenge, unveiled their moves to further enlarge Macau's gaming development.

Casino mogul Stanley Ho and Hong Kong's wealthy Lui family coincidentally chose the same day to unveil, respectively, the leasing of a gaming sub-concession to the Las Vegas-based MGM Mirage and a billion-dollar deal paving the way for the Macau-based Galaxy Casino's Hong Kong listing.

"There is no such need to worry that Singapore would draw away Macau's Southeast Asian customers," said Stanley Ho, managing director of the Macau Gaming Co Ltd (SJM).

Soon after the inking on Tuesday of his first gaming sub-concession contract, allowing MGM Mirage to invest in casino projects in Macau, Ho said SJM is very sure of its competitiveness.

Ho mentioned that Macau's gaming business has co-existed with Malaysia's Genting Casino for dozens of years without battling for customer sources.

Meanwhile, K Wah Construction Materials Ltd, a family business belonging to Hong Kong tycoon Lui Che Woo, announced on Tuesday it would purchase a 97.9% stake in Galaxy Casino, which is run by Lui's son Francis Lui, becoming the first Hong Kong-listed casino operator and capitalizing on investor interest in Macau's gaming market boom.

Lui said that after Macau's gaming market liberalization, which took effect in 2004, investors have been rushing to pour money into building high-quality gaming facilities.

Macau is undergoing a transformation from a pure gambling city toward a recreational resort destination attractive to conference organizers, vacation goers and business travelers.

A small Introduction to Poker

There are many different opinions on the origin of Poker. There seems to be no clear or direct ancestor of the game. It is more likely that Poker derived its present day form, from elements of various different games. But everyone agrees that because of it's basic principal, its birth is a very old one.

The earliest reference to Poker, is from Jonathan H. Green in 1834. In his writing, Green mentions rules of the "cheating game" which was then being played on riverboats in the Mississippi river. He soon found out that this was the first reference to the game, and he chose to call the game Poker.

The game he described was played with only 20 cards (just aces, kings, queens, jacks and tens). Two to four people could play, and each player was dealt 5 cards. By the time Green wrote about it, poker had become the number one cheating game on the Mississippi boats, receiving even more action than the game of 3-Card Monte. Most people playing the 3-Card Monte, thought that the 20-card poker seemed more legitimate, and they came back again and again.

The origin of the word Poker is also well debated. Most dictionaries and historians say that it comes from an 18th-century French game, called poque. However, there are references to pochspiel, which is a German game. In pochspiel, there is an element of bluffing, where players would indicate whether they wanted to pass or open by hitting the table and saying, "Ich Poche!" Others say it may even have derived come a Hindu word, pukka.

Yet another possible explanation for the word poker, is that it came from a version of an underworld slang word, "poke," a term used by pickpockets. Cardsharps who used the 20-card cheating game to relieve a sucker from his poke may have used that word among themselves, adding an r to make it "poker." The thought was that if the sharps used the word "poker" in front of their victims, those wise to the underworld slang would not surmise the change.

There are those who also believe that "poke" probably came from "hocus-pocus", a term widely used by magicians. The game of Poker later evolved to include 32 cards, and eventually the modern day deck of 52, not counting the two Jokers.

The game of Poker has evolved through the years, through many backroom games to the present day casinos around the world. Its history is rich with famous places and characters. For example, during the Wild West period of United States history, a saloon with a Poker table could be found in just about every town from coast to coast.

Today, Poker is carefully regulated by gambling laws, and saloons have given way to casinos and cardrooms, but Poker is played more than any other card game in the world. It has grown into a sporting event, with competitions and tournaments all around the world. Tournaments take place almost every week of the year somewhere in the world.

Can online gambling make you rich?

This is a very interesting article from The Economic Times:

Making use of the digital revolution many online betting sites and an army of fortune-hunters have given birth to online casino revolution.

Choosing the right game and understanding the rules is the first step to beat the casinos. But all you fortune-hunters first check whether the law of your land allows net gambling.

Online gambling is sort of distance gambling where you use the internet to place bets. You will need to enter your personal information and transfer money to them, through credit cards, if you wish to play for real money.

Now, more than 2,500 sites are doing its business in the Web. Most of these are launched from small Caribbean islands like Antigua.

The French Out Bet the British in Online Gambling

"February's numbers showed that more than 22 per cent of those online spent over an hour betting.

This was about three times the average UK online gambler spent having a flutter.

More than 14 per cent of online Brits gamble on the Internet - a rise of 45 per cent year on year.

"...But one French reader has pointed out that there is another factor driving online gambling in France.

Gambling Bill opens doors

With the scaled down UK Gambling Bill having sailed through Parliament last week, British authorities are moving ahead with plans to establish a new gaming commission.

Perhaps the most revolutionary aspect of the bill is a provision for online gambling firms to operate from the UK.

Although the new legislation does not give British authorities any jurisdiction over online gambling ventures operating abroad, the new commission could institute restrictions on advertising for such companies.

Gambling and Drug Addictions connected

A new study conducted by the Raul Carrea Institute for Neurological Research in Buenos Aires, Argentina, revealed that compulsive gamblers suffer from similar neurological deficits as those experienced by drug addicts.

Difficulties in controlling inhibitions observed among compulsive gamblers can also be seen among victims of frontal lobe lesions.

Frontal lobe damage, particularly in areas responsible for inhibitory control, is also thought to be associated with drug addiction.

Though deficits in inhibitory control were found among test subjects, it is not clear whether these deficits are in any way causally related to gambling addiction.

Casinos ready for Singapore

Singapore will announce next week whether it would allow a casino to be built after months of debate over whether economic benefits outweigh the social costs of expanding legalised gambling in Southeast Asia's most prosperous country.

The cabinet made the final decision, which will be announced in Parliament on Monday.

But the public nature of the debate underscored a degree of openness in decision-making in Singapore, where opposition to government policies is rare.

Nineteen of the world's top gaming companies have proposed projects.

Singapore hopes that billions spent on casinos with theme parks and hotels will grow its S$184 billion (US$112 billion) domestic economy, attract high-spending tourists and create hundreds of jobs, particularly for workers who don't have the skills for the high-tech jobs that Singapore now focuses on creating.

Nomura Singapore Ltd economist Tomo Kinoshita says a casino would likely boost Singapore's economy by 0.6% a year and create 13,000 jobs.

It is also expected to liven up Singapore's staid image.

A casino at home could attract hundreds of millions of dollars that Singaporeans spend each year gambling in Malaysia, Las Vegas, Macau, and other locations.

Betfair looking for new licence

Though already licensed in the UK, remote betting exchange Betfair is trying to get a Tasmanian license, and according to a number of sources, the company is likely to get it.

Should Betfair obtain a license from the Tasmanian government, punters in the remaining Australian states could legally place bets with Betfair, either over the telephone or internet.

The Australian gambling market is currently dominated by TABCorp and Betfair's flirtation with the industry has many locals anxious.

Some fear that the gambling industry is not capable of adequately supporting two major betting services, and the industry as a whole would suffer as a result of Betfair's British invasion.

Premier Lennon has promised not be swayed by TABCorp's threats and has said that he will remain open to the option of licensing Betfair.

'Apprentice' contestant arrested in Casino

Real estate millionaire Chris Shelton, a contestant on NBC's "The Apprentice", was arrested at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino. Shelton, 22, one of six remaining contestants competing for a job with Donald Trump, was taken into custody early Sunday.

A tribal police officer said he heard a noisy Shelton in the hotel lobby and asked him twice to calm down before arresting him. Shelton "was at the lobby causing a scene," the police report said.

All but the final episode has been taped, and it isn't known if Shelton makes it that far.

Shelton spent most of the latest episode waiting for employees to find a credit card he lost at Best Buy, telling an employee he hoped he didn't "have to find an aluminum bat and break somebody's kneecaps."

"He makes mistake after mistake after mistake," said fired Apprentice Angie McKnight.

Vegas gambles on Sumo

Asashoryu, sumo wrestling's reigning champ, is a hotheaded athlete who dominates so completely and disregards traditions so brazenly that he's the fastest-rising star in the Land of the Rising Sun.

Few Americans know much about sumo, but promoters figure they'll be drawn to the plotline of a volatile star the public loves to hate when Asashoryu and 40 others of the sport's biggest wrestlers descend on Las Vegas this October for the first professional sumo tournament held on U.S. soil in 20 years.

The Japan Sumo Association, which seldom sends its athletes abroad, accepted the invite from Las Vegas on the occasion of the city's centennial year.

October's three-day event is part of an effort to globalize the appeal of the 1,500-year-old sport, whose best wrestlers now come from outside Japan anyway.

Those kinds of antics are controversial in Japan; promoters are betting that he'll feel right at home in Vegas.

Casino Review - 888.com

- 100% Bonus on your first deposit for up to $200 Free
- Casino on Net runs its own exclusive games software.
- Games are available in Download and No Download (Java) versions.
- There is a total of 28 games. 15 Slot Machines (5 progressive jackpots).
- Games are available in 10 International Languages.

Casino On Net (888.com, entercasino.com, etc, etc.) is by far the most popular and well known online casino on the Internet. Any surfer that has been online for more than 15 minutes, has seen banners for the world's No1 Online Casino.

For sure Casino On Net has come a long way since it first appeared on the web. With huge marketing campaigns and aggresive strategy they have managed to advertise almost everywhere since day one. But when they first started, the games were just bad. Now things have changed, since the competition is growing fast, and Casino On Net is coming back with new software, live poker room (Pacific Poker), and support for 10 different languages.

Even the website has been redesigned, adding some extra glamour. Very easy to navigate without being too fancy, quick links to the main sections, and an initial bonus of $200 Free are some of the website's features. There is also a Player's Club available, with promotions, events and a Gambling School with rules and game strategies.

The games are available to Download, or to play online in a web-based java version of the casino. The download process was very fast (filesize of around 2.1MB) but only Blackjack is availabe right away. The rest of the games are being downloaded in the background while playing.

Casino On Net offers a total of 28 games. There are 15 slot machines, and 5 of them have a progressive jackpot. Also 6 versions of Video Poker are available with one progressive too. For sure there is not a big variety of games compared to other casinos, but all the good ones are here: Blackjack, Roulette, Craps, Keno, Pai Gow, Baccarat and Caribbean Poker. You can play in Private, Public or Reseved Tables with your friends.

I liked the Table games a lot, with nice graphics and very easy to understand right from the start. The slot machines are not that great, only one with 3 and one with 5 lines, the rest are all pretty basic. The progressives were huge though (I was not surpised at all for a casino with that capacity).

Overall I liked the new Casino On Net, with all the new games and features. If you have never played there, or played before with the old software, try it. For sure its worth the good name it has earned over the years.

World Trade Organization to decide on Internet Gambling

World Trade Organization appeals panel is expected to rule Thursday on whether the United States should drop prohibitions on Americans placing bets in online casinos - a decision that could open the nation to Internet gambling.

Last year, a WTO report confirmed a preliminary ruling in a dispute pitting the United States against the tiny Caribbean nation of Antigua and Barbuda, saying the U.S. ban represented an unfair trade barrier.

The United States contends that Internet gambling should be prohibited because it violates some U.S. state laws.

U.S. trade officials disagreed, saying that negotiators involved in the Uruguay Round of global trade talks, which created the WTO in 1995, clearly intended to exclude gambling.

Antiguan authorities also argued that restrictions that barred U.S. residents from betting at offshore casinos were harming their country's efforts to diversify its economy.

Trump Casinos off bankruptcy

Donald Trump's cash-strapped casino empire played its cards right and received court permission today to emerge from bankruptcy.

Trump Hotels & Casino Resorts, which operates three casinos in Atlantic City and a riverboat casino in Gary, Ind., filed for Chapter 11 in November because of a crushing $1.8 billion in debt.

Trump also scuttled plans for a casino near French Lick, Ind., after filing bankruptcy, and state gaming officials decided to seek a new round of bids on the contract.

U.S. Bankruptcy Judge Judith Wizmur signed off on the company's reorganization, under which the star of TV's "The Apprentice" will surrender majority control.

But Trump will remain the largest single shareholder and will retain the titles of chairman and chief executive officer in a new company called Trump Entertainment Resorts.

The company is expected to save an estimated $98 million annually in interest payments because of the restructuring.

In 1992, Trump Taj Mahal, Trump Castle and Trump Plaza ended up in Chapter 11, burdened by more than $1 billion in debt and hurt by the 1990-91 recession.

One of the worlds top online poker affiliates is now auctioning himself off to the tune of $.01 on Ebay to play poker in Las Vegas during the 2005 World Series of poker wearing a Pink Bunny suit.

More information can be viewed at http://www.PinkBunnyPoker.com In this outrageous promotion Jeremy Enke will play poker at the nationally televised and most prestigous poker event in the world wearing a branded Pink Bunny costume.

In a phone interview with Jeremy Enke he stated "I am independantly welathy and after seeing the tremendous media response to a grilled cheese sandwich selling on Ebay for $30,000 I thought this would be a great marketing opportunity to combine the two hottest trends right now; poker and body advertising.

With everything that the auction encompasses I have no doubt that this will be larger than the infamous Golden Palace Streaker."
