Future Glasgow Casino must rehabilitate Addicted Gamblers
The new £200 million super-casino is up for grabs in Scotland. The only catch is that the owner must pay to rehabilitate any person who develops a gambling problem. Councillors, John Mason and Steven Purcell , are arguing whether or not the super-casino is a good idea. Mr.Purcell believes that the city will benefit from the casino by boosting its economy but Mason thinks that it will create more addicts, which will cost the city more in the long run. The casino is estimated to bring in over £200 million for the city and will create over 4000 jobs.
The UK government's Gambling Act (2005) does not constrict any country to build any size casino. However, the only way the casino will be built is if the operator agrees to provide programs to help support problem gamblers. Scotland already has twelve casinos, which includes Glasgow's five. Plans for three more casinos are on the horizon.
