Caesars Palace First of its Kind

Jay Sarno began his career by building Cabana hotels with his partner Stanley Mallin. Mr. Sarno then visited Las Vegas for the first time in the early 60s. At that time, most hotels in Vegas looked the same, differing only by name. He had a brand new idea, to construct the first fantasy-themed resort ever.

Construction for the now famous Caesars Palace began in 1964 and cost $24 million to create. The hotel resort was the first to offer its guests an escape into an ancient world. Every room was decorated in various historical periods, such as the Roman Empire. Caesars opened its doors in 1966 and became the most popular gambling resort in its day. Sarno sold it three years later for $60 million.
