Casinos in Nevada refusing to pay
In 2000, Richard Chen won over $40 000 in blackjack by counting cards. Monte Carlo Casino refused to pay him his winnings because they believed he cheated. Mr. Chen went to court. The Nevada Supreme Court ruled that the casino had to pay him what was owed to him due to the fact that counting cards is not considered cheating, it is seen as a talent a player has. Another case occurred at the MGM Grand, where a player tried to collect $8 600 that he won at blackjack. The casino refused to pay him.
Unfortunately, this does not occur only in big casinos. A woman who had checked into the Tuscany Hotel played a video poker machine in the hotel bar. As she started to win, a guard came up to her and told her to leave. After a few minutes, security handcuffed her and threw her out of the hotel without her winnings and a refund for the room.
Many gamblers have sued casinos for not receiving their winnings, and for being harassed physically by casino security. One of the major reasons that these cases arise is that the Nevada Gaming Control Board does nothing about it. They usually will pay the person who is suing their winnings and that's it. They do not punish the casinos for all this wrongdoing because of their secret deals done with the casino bosses.
Things have to definitely change in Nevada's casinos. If the general public starts finding out how casinos abuse patrons when they win, it could lead eventually to a decrease of tourists in the gambling state. However, playing online is the safest alternative. Online casinos have come a long way!
