Sumo comes to Vegas!

The Japan Sumo Association announced today that they are planning to bring Sumo to Las Vegas for the very first time. One of the oldest sports in the world, with a history of more than 1,500 years is finally coming to Vegas for a 3 day Grand Sumo Championship tournament. The event will take place on Oct. 7 to 9, at the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino.

Some of the highest professional level sumo athletes will compete in the tournament, including the current champion Makunouchi Rikishi. A winner will be determined after the end of each day, and a Grand Champion will be crowned on Sunday after the final match. You can purchase tickets for the event at $175, $125 or $75 per day.

This is not the first time that Sumo comes to the US though. The last Grand Sumo 3-day tournament was in early June 1985 at the Madison Square Garden in New York.
