Gambling and Drug Addictions connected
A new study conducted by the Raul Carrea Institute for Neurological Research in Buenos Aires, Argentina, revealed that compulsive gamblers suffer from similar neurological deficits as those experienced by drug addicts.
Difficulties in controlling inhibitions observed among compulsive gamblers can also be seen among victims of frontal lobe lesions.
Frontal lobe damage, particularly in areas responsible for inhibitory control, is also thought to be associated with drug addiction.
Though deficits in inhibitory control were found among test subjects, it is not clear whether these deficits are in any way causally related to gambling addiction.
